James Cai, Esq., Founder of Schein & Cai LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.
Mr. Cai was a mechanical engineer for three years, and since the industry was so heavily regulated he decided to learn law. He feels the rules of logic carry over easily from this previous profession, and is now a specialist in corporate and civil litigation, business law, and immigration law. Mr. Cai is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and was formerly an in-house legal counsel of Yahoo! Inc.
Mr. Cai originally studied mechanical engineering at the Tong Ji University in Shanghai, China, and earned an MS in the subject from Villanova University in Pennsylvania in 1992. He worked in the field for some time before studying with the Temple University School of Law, earning a JD, magna cum laude, in 1998. Mr. Cai was admitted to practice in the state of California, followed by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He initially joined the firm of Gray, Cary, Ware and Freidenrich LLP, now DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary. Later, Mr. Cai became an attorney with Morrison and Foerster LLP, and after working with Yahoo!, formed Schein and Cai LLP.
Mr. Cai has represented Intel, Nokia, and the Ballet San Jose. He attributes his success to hard work and compassion. He treats his clients’ cases as his own cases. In addition to his namesake firm, Mr. Cai is a member of the Milpitas Chamber of Commerce, a commissioner of the city of Bertino, and president of the Silicon Valley Information Business Alliance. He was recognized with a 2016 Lawyers of Distinction Award from the Lawyers of Distinction, Inc. Mr. Cai sees many years of growth for his legal firm.
